Michel Versluis of the University of Twente produces high-speed video imagery of the Kaye effect: a poured stream of a viscous liquid can bounce, producing a an arcing jet of material. Phillp Ball's article hints that you can observe the effect in your bathroom with a carefully-controlled pour of shampoo.

Whuff! I feel like I'm back in graduate school. This week brought: four job interviews (one of them with a written test); a certification exam; and a workshop in field identification of benthic macroinvertebrates (e.g., caddisfly larvae, an indicator of healthy streams)—I haven't used a microscope since high school. And tomorrow I have an audition and a wedding to go to.
